Impact of divorce on kids

When my parents were getting divorced, I was just entering my teens. My parents were facing some problems but my mom tried to hold on the bits of her broken marriage because of me. The messy divorce and the ugly custody battle had an impact on my impressionable mind. I would see my parents argue and quarrel and wished that they would agree on some topics at least.

I was sent to my grandmother while the divorce procedure was going on. That only helped me in not being an eye witness to the fights of my parents, but I could feel the tension around me. I was being torn into two parts. My parent’s divorce shattered my world and made me feel dejected.

This is the time when my grandmother decided to take me for counseling. She came to know from her friend that there was a family counseling Michigan based company called newdaycounseling.org that catered to such traumatized kids. It was with their help that I regained normalcy. I was finally able to open up to someone and tell her all my problems. That itself made me feel a lot better.
